The Honda Civic is more than a car; it’s an institution. The world was a very different place when it first debuted back in 1973 Nixon was in office, Elvis was still playing concerts, and The Internet existed only in the minds of a few highly educated nerds.
Half a century later, the award-winning Civic is regarded as one of the best cars in the world, and it’s the longest-tenured vehicle in Honda history, with over 12 million sold in the U.S. alone.
Now that the Honda Civic is a few years into its 11th generation, the brain trust at Honda has decided to shake things up in a big way. It’s been totally refreshed with a new look, a ton of additional features, and for the first time in nearly a decade, a hybrid electric powertrain.
Here’s a breakdown of all the changes you can expect to the 2025 Civic when it comes to Overland Park this summer.
A Powerful Hybrid Electric Motor
Honda claims that the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid will be the most powerful non-Type R Civic we’ve seen yet, while also providing the same wallet-friendly fuel sippage you’d expect from an HEV.
The Civic Hybrid’s powertrain is bolstered by two hearty electric motors, which deliver responsive acceleration and efficiency. The experience is enhanced by Linear Shift Control, which is designed to impart a feel that mimics the classic multi-gear drivetrain found in gas-powered models.
For the 2025 model year, the hybrid engine replaces the 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine. Current projections say that it’ll crank out a combined 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, a significant boost in power over the outgoing powertrain. The tried-and-true 2.0-liter gas engine will still be available in the base Civic trims, too.
Official numbers regarding the fuel economy of the 2025 Civic have yet to be confirmed, but we expect it to easily surpass 40 miles per gallon both in the city and on the highway. Gas mileage is further improved by the new Civic’s selectable Econ drive mode and its paddle-operated regenerative braking, which has four different levels to customize your ride at a moment’s notice.
Form, Function, and Style
As part of its refresh, the 2025 Civic has gotten some exterior design touch-ups, which give it a more aerodynamic profile for even better fuel economy. Plus, it just looks cool.
The frontal profile is overhauled for an altogether more imposing look. The side air inlets are larger, the upper and lower grilles are boxier, and the fascia has been tweaked for an aggressive, sporty appearance that matches the new hybrid’s power. Headlamps and taillights have also been given a new treatment.
New colors for the 2025 Civic include Urban Gray Pearl, Solar Silver Metallic, Blue Lagoon Pearl (sedan only) and Sand Dune Pearl (hatchback only).
In addition to the outward-facing stylings, the new Civic’s interior has gotten some subtle tweaks as well, further improving on the already excellent design from the previous year. Standard features have been added to more trims—all hybrids come with a moonroof, dual climate control, and heated front seats, and all models across the board are now kitted with standard USB-C ports up front.
Unbeatable Tech and Safety
For the very first time, the Honda Civic will be available with Google built-in starting this year.
Upper-level trims will have this feature as standard, allowing for even greater device integration and customization through Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play store. Using Google built-in, navigation, music, podcasts, news, and more will be available using hands-free voice commands, allowing drivers to keep their attention fully on the road without skipping a beat. New Civic models will come complete with a 3-year unlimited data plan to access this bold new tech.
Gas-powered trims will still have compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.
Of course, one thing that hasn’t changed is Honda’s commitment to safety. The Honda Sensing suite is standard across the entire Civic line, and includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assist System.
New for 2025, Civic Sport trims now come standard with Blind Spot with Rear Cross Traffic Alert as well, guaranteeing an even safer ride for drivers in Kansas City.
A New Selection of Trims
Reflecting the shift toward the hybrid powertrain, the list of available trims for the Civic has been overhauled. The list now includes:
- 2025 Honda Civic LX (sedan only)
- 2025 Honda Civic Sport
- 2025 Honda Civic Sport Hybrid
- 2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hybrid
